Our Take:
Too often, we find ourselves with overdrive pedals that just do too much; pedals which, instead of giving your natural tone a little kick and some organic crunch, end up distorting your tone with their heavy-handedness. The Vemuram Jan Ray Overdrive is not one of these pedals. This is an overdrive which clearly works with – not against – your natural guitar tone, mimicking the natural overdrive that the original ’60s Blackface Fenders wouldyield upon being turned up. The Vemuram Jan Ray is very easy to use, and keeps a ton of headroom in the mix, so you don’t need to worry about maxing out your tone. And of course, the stompbox itself is sleek and incredibly classy.

The Jan Ray was designed to recreate the punchy clear tone of the Blackface Fender amps from the 60s. So-called the Fender Magic 6 sound. An easy to handle overdrive keeping the characteristics of the guitar, with great sustain without any unnatural compression.
