While most stage microphones use dynamic capsules, the KK 104 U is equipped with a true condenser capsule, offering the superior clarity that made Neumann studio microphones famous all over the world. The KK 104 U possesses the ruggedness required for stage use, refuting the myth that condenser microphones must be fragile. The KK 104 U can stand enormous sound pressure levels without clipping, and the tight, frequency-independent cardioid/supercardioid pattern ensures high gain before feedback. The KK 104 U has a much smoother frequency response than dynamic microphones and an airy top-end.

The Neumann KK 104 U offers a vastly superior transient response, compared to dynamic microphones, and effortless intelligibility, without the usual EQ boosts which further improves feedback resistance. Both are optimized for close miking; a fixed low cut filter compensates for the proximity effect and ensures clear bass, even if the singers lips touch the microphone. The headgrille is made of hardened steel and features a highly effective internal pop screen, which controls sibilance and also keeps moisture away from the capsule. The KK 104 U (cardioid) has an open sound, and is forgiving regarding positioning and head movements. It is possibly the perfect capsule for expressive singers.
