Condition Report

This ’73 Guild has some war wounds and has undergone a few surgeries over the course of its five-decade life, but it’s a sturdy beast that would perform admirably as a player-grade vintage workhorse. It has undergone a refret at some point and its fingerboard has been planed, but the neck doesn’t seem to have been reset and the neck angle is spot-on. The frets show almost zero wear and measure .082 inches by .032 inches.

The finish shows typical vintage wear: aggressive pick marks in the pickguard area, chips, dings, scratches, and checking. The wear is most apparent on the back, where there is some pronounced buckle rash. A previous owner has added a bone nut and saddle, boosting the guitar’s resonance and sustain.

There is one open crack on the back, which appears to have been there for some time and doesn’t affect the guitars tone, as it doesn’t produce any buzz or rattle. The fine folks at Woodsongs Lutherie also reglued a loose portion of the bracing to the top.

So, while this Guild is why no means spotless, it does provide superb value, and it will likely be a studio superstar or live stalwart for some lucky picker! It comes with its original hardshell case, too.
