The 1919 Martin Style C mandolin is a rare, high-quality flat-back instrument produced during a short 19171920 production window. It features premium materials like Brazilian rosewood back/sides, an Adirondack spruce top, and ornate marquetry. Known for a brilliant, balanced tone suitable for classical/Celtic music, these are now prized vintage collectibles.

  • Body Type:Flat-back, bent-top (“induced arch”) design.
  • Woods:Brazilian rosewood back and sides, Adirondack spruce top, and typically a cedar neck.
  • Ornamentation:Often features a Style “D” marquetry, pearl inlay, and intricate bindings. Some early 1919 models may feature abalone, according to discussions.
  • Hardware:Known for high-quality engraved tuners and ebony bridges.

These instruments are often considered premier examples of Martin’s early 20th-century craftsmanship before they focused heavily on guitars.
