The D-18 Golden Era has long been one of our favorite Martin Dreadnoughts. It’s not that we don’t like the even more retro Authentic models, but the adjustable truss rod is something we welcome as it makes set-up so much easier and flexible if you change playing styles. But GE specs mean that along with forward-shifted scalloped top braces and the bigger neck you also get 2 5/16″ string spacing at the saddle. Beautiful dark mid-1930s style sunburst on the Adirondack top and this hasn’t been torrefied (no VTS), it’s just been aging for the last 9 years the old-fashioned way. It has been played, there’s a little very very light fret wear but no signs of other playing wear and it appears to be original throughout except for the strings, doesn’t even have a strap button at the neck heel. This is a great sounding D-18, with the characteristic clarity and sparkle of a pre-war style Martin mahogany D and plenty of headroom if you sometimes play hard. Original case is equally clean.
