We just took in an exceptional guitar, this Fender Custom Shop 1959 Jazzmaster. It has a ton of vibe, a great character, and smooth playability.
Designed expressly for jazzers (but adopted by surfers) and introduced in 1958, the Jazzmaster combined refined looks with a warm, mellifluous voice and new tremolo system. It evolved over the years, but the 1959 Jazzmaster is known as the most influential model that helped define new musical genres – that’s what the Custom Shop went for with this recreation, but with a few twists for modern players.
The two-piece alder body sports the iconic offset curves designed for guitarists who usually played seated, and also wears a Journeyman Relic lacquer finish, giving it the look and feel of a guitar thats survived over five decades of playing. The Custom Shop went with “sort for lightweight” to make sure it didn’t come out too heavy.
The guitar is Aged Olympic White, with a layer of Electrodag paint. This special paint is a ready-to-use conductive graphic antistatic shieldacrylic coating that provides extremely high conductivity. This helps for controlling electrostatic discharge, resulting in a quieter guitar in terms of noise. This is a unique feature rarely found, and we dig it!
The tinted, rift sawn maple neck sports a period-accurate 62 Jazzmaster-shaped profile, while the rosewood fingerboard has been updated to 9.5-radius and holds 21 6105 frets. Tied together with ultra-flexible, vintage-style Jazzmaster wiringincluding the famous lead/rhythm circuit, complete with thumbwheel controlsthe vintage styled Handwound Jazzmaster single-coil pickups sound mellow and fat; the models calling card.
Other features includethe RSD J-Bridge for better stability, with brass saddles for extra warmth. It has vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and an anodizedgold pickguard. Includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity.
We don’t see many previously owned Jazzmasters coming through, so we were happy to get this in. This is a special one – you can see and hear why for yourself by coming to Truetone Music, or by ordering right here to be shipped to your home.
