1971 Martin D-28 in excellent crack-free condition, featuring a Martin Thinline Gold active pickup and including a hardshell case. 70’s Martins can vary quite a bit, but this dreadnought is, without a doubt, an example of the best of them. A highly responsive guitar with rich trebles, punchy low end, and immensely satisfying sustain. Setup with excellent flatpicking action measuring 7/64″ and 5/64″ from the 12th fret to the bottom of the low and high strings, respectively, with .010″ relief in the neck with medium gauge strings. The mahogany neck is a deeper C than Martin’s current standard Modern Low Oval profile – more rounded and with a touch less shoulder. Also worth noting is the exceptionally accurate intonation all the way up the scale. Recently serviced by a competent luthier who re-set the neck, refretted the board, and replaced the pickguard – all very high-quality work that’s tough to spot, even under blacklight.
