The Bourgeois Slope D Luthiers Choice from 1999 is a rare, small-batch instrument that showcases Dana Bourgeois craftsmanship at its most inspired. As one of only 30 built, this pre-Pantheon model pairs an old-growth Sitka spruce top with Honduran mahogany back and sides, delivering a mature, open voice with exceptional volume and clarity. The slope-shouldered dreadnought design adds warmth and depth, making it ideal for vocal accompaniment and expressive acoustic playing.
With a responsive feel and a naturally broken-in tonal character, this guitar offers a balanced low end, rich midrange, and smooth top-end detail. The comfortable action and traditional appointments, including ivoroid binding and high-quality bone components, make it equally suited to fingerstyle and light-to-medium flatpicking, offering a refined playing experience with vintage-inspired character.
This 1999-built guitar is in great but well-played condition, and shows light playwear over the body and headstock, and some dings and capo marks on the back of the neck. There’s a reason why this guitar has been so well-played – it sounds unbelievable! Open, airy and refined with beautifully balance and a sophisticated, smooth voice that elevates the classic slope-shoulder design and sound. Dana Bourgeois’ guitars are known for their world-class timbers, but the Luthiers Choice series takes it up a notch with tight-grained old-growth tonewoods throughout, topped with a stunning hand-applied sunburst finish. A world-class dreadnought with vintage character and charm. Includes original hardshell case.
