1950’s D-28’s seem to be the pinnacle of vintage Martins for most working-class folk and professional musicians alike. This one comes to us from the daughter of the original owner, and was never played after his passing a few years ago. Lore also has it, that this is the guitar that George Jones borrowed/played in a show directly after he found out his 000-18 was stolen in 1962. While we can’t prove this story is true, the guitar itself does prove it’s been around the block many many times and back. It is also fresh off the bench, from a no expense spared full restoration, by master Luthier and artisan, Allen Williams of Baruke Guitars in Gainesville GA. There are/were no structural issues outside the normal maintenance/repairs of a nearly 70 year old Martin. Below you will find a list of repairs performed bringing it back to its glory and having a broken in sound that can only be had after many many decades of playing and aging.

The finish remains all original with no overspray; however, the finish does show some compromise on the outer edge of the top measuring 1/2-3/4″, where it appears after a previous successful binding reglue, some sort of solvent was used, slightly marring the finish.

Repairs/restoration includes, complete refret, neck reset, new handmade ebony bridge, repaired worn bridge plate, using Stewmac plug method, repaired/cleated pickguard crack and one hairline side crack on lower left just below the waist. Previous top crack repair on lower right/bottom, the guitar also had a pickup when it came to us and has been removed and endpin has been plugged with the large Colosi style replacement endpin.
